Feeling

A wood that tries to be spooky and keeps giggling.

Key reference: The game's docs/concept/05-creatures.jpg, with its black lifted to plum.

Palette

Half the frame is plum and lilac; then deep violet, mushroom teal and the yellow of the eyes. The first one or two colours take half to two thirds of a frame.

Shape motif

The spiral: branch ends, fern heads, roots and the skumlinger's tails all curl.

Light

Lilac twilight under the canopy at any hour, ground mist, fireflies. The trees close the sky, so the zone holds its light whatever the clock says. Value key 0.22 to 0.36.

Plants and ground

Glowing round-capped mushrooms and curled ferns. A mauve leaf floor with stolen apples.

Architecture

None. One tipped cart, a lost lantern, and the village's lit windows seen between the trunks.

Creatures

The classic skumling: deep violet plum #3B2A4F (proposed; the game has them black today), big yellow eyes, tiny horns, a goofy grin. Funny, not frightening.

Never

A straight branch, or anything black.

Transition in and out

A threshold of 15 to 30 m: the lilac mist thickens, trunks turn plum and begin to curl, the lit windows of the village drop behind. It is the only place inside the wall that glows (teal mushrooms, yellow eyes). From inside the wood the village's warm windows stay visible between the trunks, so she can always see home.

ZONE_SKUMLESKOGEN
Zone: Skumleskogen, the spooky-funny wood inside the wall, in lilac twilight under its canopy. Curly trees with plum-purple trunks whose branches end in spirals, lilac mist on the ground, round teal-glowing mushrooms, fallen apples, a tipped flower cart. Four skumlinger: round fuzzy imps the colour of deep violet plums with big glowing yellow eyes, tiny horns and goofy grins, one peeking from behind a tree, one running off with an armful of apples, one laughing on the cart. A small princess of about eight with curly brown hair, a small gold crown, a red cape and a leather backpack stands on the path with a wooden sword, seen from behind; far off between the trunks the warm lit windows of the village. Half the picture is plum and lilac; then deep violet, mushroom teal, the yellow of the eyes. Shape motif: the spiral. Funny, not frightening; no black.

The scene that proved the zone card. Stand-in princess.
