The seam at the gates
Five things flip at once when she walks through a gate arch, and what stands in the first 40 m.
From inside, the arch is a picture frame and the land outside is a painting hung in it. A player feels the change because five things flip at once.

| Inside the arch | Through the arch | |
|---|---|---|
| Temperature | honey, cream, butter light | olive, slate teal, pale straw light |
| Shape | round, chunky, upright | tall, tapered, leaning |
| Paint | blended, no line | strokes, three hard tones, thin coloured line |
| Distance | everything within 30 m | the first thing 30 m off, the last 2 km off |
| Enclosure | framed on both sides | a horizon |
The folk do not flip. Human figures have one design on both sides of the wall; what changes on a person is the zone's clothing colours and the ornament (painted rosemaling inside, a woven or carved band outside).
Seven rules, measured from the wall's outside face
They sit inside the engine's blend of 4 m inside to 36 m outside.
- Each gate frames one landmark of its zone, at least ten times her height, visible from 20 m inside the gate through the arch (at Nordporten: the old pine and the watchtower).
- 0 to 10 m out: the cobbles stop at the arch's outer edge; the road turns umber; the last cute thing stands here.
- 10 to 25 m: the flowers of the gate's two tubs come back as wild drifts of the same colours, in the outside brush. This is the one thread she can follow across.
- 15 to 30 m: the first leaning or tapered silhouette (a wind-bent tree, a tilted way-marker).
- Within 40 m: the first painterly story (a tipped cart at Nordporten, a cold camp at Vestporten, a spilt churn at Sørporten).
- Coming home: from 60 m out, the arch shows a warm, round, lit picture in a cold grey-green wall. Both gate lanterns are butter-yellow, the only butter light outside.
- Nothing is half and half. No prop mixes the two looks except the gate itself.
Do
- Hand the flowers over across the gate: the same colours, inside tubs to outside drifts.
- Put exactly one landmark in each arch.
- Keep the gate lanterns butter-yellow, seen from outside.
Never
- A prop with painted rosemaling and carved wheels together.
- A blended zone: half cute, half painted.
- A sharp spear or a ruin that is gloomy in the first 40 m.
Seen from the other side
The Eventyrland game has a gate for each road: Nordporten to Nordalen, Vestporten to Fjellfoten, Sørporten to Sørmarka, Sørvestporten to Sørvika. Each has its own colour and emblem on the inside face. The game's docs/wall.md lists them with what stands outside.
